John's Journal
Day EightWe made it up just barely in time to make the "Breakfast" part of the Bed & Breakfast. I still feel a touch sick, so I just watch everyone else eat. It's funny when you live alone to have breakfast with all these people! It is a totally lazy morning with everyone just hanging around until late. We finally make it to the Jazz Fest at, I don't know, around 1pm. There are a lot of people but not as many as there will be tomorrow or Sunday (I guess some people still have to work, huh?!). It's kinda cool with overcast skies, rain in the forecast. Lost and lots of great bands playing all over the plethora of stages. Many I don't know, and some I do. What gets me is that it's called the Jazz Fest, but people like James Taylor are playing. We all plod around, everyone but me getting some fine Cajun food and drink. It actually looks sort of nice for a while, then gets worse. We check out some of the bands, nothing too serious, decide to wander on our own for a bit. I step into the Jazz tent (note that I said "tent" for this means it has a cover overhead) and sample some great, swinging big band music. Those who know me from a while ago, know that I love this and all kinds of jazz and was content to sit and listen for a while. Besides, I still was not feeling up to snuff. Then I started noticing that more and more people started coming into the tent. I looked outside and someone said that it started pouring. Good timing, I thought! I had a nice comfy seat and a roof over my head (well, a tent roof anyway) and was happy as a clam. All the others were caught in the rain and were soaked. That put a damper on things, so we wandered some more and then came home. I know this sounds boring, but since it is late as I write this (1:50am), I kinda want to get some sleep, so perhaps I am not elaborating as I should, or too much in this case. Anyway, we all piled in my room to check out this here web site, finally. COOL! Wonderful work, Patrick and friends at DimensionX! It really is official! Now I have to make sure I keep up my part and keep this somewhat interesting (I know, too late!). It's really great to see you offer some thoughts, guidance, insight as to where I came from, etc... Now I also have to make sure I don't pre-filter any of this now that I know who's tuning in! So, next up was the evening in the French Quarter, I would like to do this in a free-association way. Cab took forever (we need 2, Matthew), Acme Oyster Bar, yum! still squeamish with the food, walk around Bourbon Street, music all over, blues, rock, Dixieland, little bit of dancing, walk some more, more tunes, walk some more, more drinks, walk some more, more tunes, stop and listen, walk, stop, walk, walk, stop (you get the idea), cab, home, write, sleep...perchance to dream. Disclaimer- I am too tired and still a little sick to do this justice, sorry. I hope that I can fill in some more tomorrow, but now I must rest. Thanks for watching, everyone, it's really wonderful knowing that I am never alone on my journey. later
